Synopsis: Nora Grey is just a typical high school girl stuck with a lab partner she'd rather not have in chemistry class. Patch is not your average high school guy. Patch has dark secrets, ones that he'll do anything to keep hidden from his lab partner, Nora. The more Patch pushes Nora away, the closer she wants to get, but how far will she go to find out the truth and unknowingly hurt herself in the meantime? Nora knows something is not right about Patch, that something about him is not quite... human.

Review: I have been hearing many good things about Hush, Hush for a while, so I decided to finally give it a try. What I can say is that I was not disappointed. Hush, Hush was suspenseful, gripping, mysterious and haunting- haunting in the best way. It is a story that will stick with you. When I was reading this, I could not put it down because Becca Fitzpatrick is absolutely a master at writing scenes that leave you at the edge of your seat.
However, what made this book a four star for me was the romance. I was expecting a huge, bad boy-turns-good-and-professes-love-for-good-girl type of scene, but sadly, I was disappointed. I didn't even realize Patch really, truly had feelings for Nora until towards the end of the novel! Whether this was intentional or not, it didn't really work out for me. Even though that was one of the weaker points of the novel, the brief (genuine) romantic interactions between Nora and Patch were quite sweet. I really hope that in the next book, this romance will become developed even more.
One of my biggest loves in books is character development, and I was very glad to see that done very well in Hush, Hush. Nora was a very likable character, and very easy to relate too. She stood up for herself, and stayed true to who she was. I can't really define Nora's character, but for a normal teenage girl, she was written perfectly.

Conclusion: Overall, I don't regret picking up this book. I will have high standards for the second one, only because I really want to see more things happen between the characters, and a lot more romance and just action in general.
What are you all reading right now?

  1. It is so nice reading positive reviews for this series, when I hear mainly bad things about it nowadays. I read this one a long time ago, and recently re-read it so that I could read the rest of the series. And, while it definitely wasn't perfect, I still enjoyed it the second time around.

  2. So the truth is I really enjoyed the firt book... But hate the second. Like full out hated.
And I'm not even quite sure why my thoughts changed so drastically. I think tht in the second book I definitely had a much greater hate for the romance. So that mights have been it. But I just remember feeling so annoyed about it all! GRRR.....
Anyhow great review and I hope that you continue to enjoy the series! And sorry for the bit of ranting!

  3. I've actually read this series a while back and after reading your review I actually want to go back and re-read it. I'm glad you liked Hush, Hush

  4. I have been wanting to read this book for a while now but have heard so many mixed reviews about it that I keep putting it off. I'm glad you liked it. I enjoyed reading your review of it and think I might go and give it a try!

  5. I won this book last summer in a giveaway and haven't had a chance to read it yet. When my niece was visiting (and bored) I threw it at her to give her something to do. She sat by the pool and read it all-day-long.

  6. This series is just not for me. At all. I just didn't like it. Too much angst for me.

  7. I read this book a couple of months ago and enjoyed it. It might not be the best YA series for me but I'm really enjoying reading the rest of the series.
