Q1: If you were stranded on a deserted island with one other author, who would it be and why?
We authors aren’t always known for our outdoorsy survival skills, so it’s hard to say who would make the best company if I wanted to actually stay alive on that island. I might have to go with Laura Ingalls Wilder. She’s both a tough prairie girl and a beloved storyteller. She would help me survive without my modern conveniences, and I could chat with her about all her books I read as a kid while we’re flagging down ships.
Q2: What is the one book/author that got you into reading/writing?
I got into both reading and writing during early childhood, so I’d probably have to go way back to my love of Dr. Seuss books to find the first sparks that kindled this lifelong passion of mine.
Q3: As an author, how do you want your readers to feel after they read your book?
I want them to feel like they’ve just eased to a stop on a roller coaster ride, and their stomachs are still a bit in their throats. Ideally, there would be the sensation of, “What just happened to me…and can I experience it again, please?”
Q4: Can you describe your upcoming novel in seven words or less?
Hypnotist boy hired to tame suffragist girl.
Q5: Have you ever based any of your characters off anyone in real life? If you have, did you tell him/her?
No, not really. I’ve borrowed traits from people I know, but I have never created a character that’s completely based on someone in my life. Yet.
