Day 10: The Edge of Falling
Welcome to Day 10 of New Year, New Books! Today I'm featuring a super cool author, with an even cooler book.
2) Rebecca Serle
-author of The Edge of Falling (March 18th, 2014)
Obviously I'm totally calm and collected.
Okay I'm totally not. Because everything about this book just screams "READ-ME PLEASE" and "LOOK HOW PRETTY I AM." If this is not on your TBR list, I'm judging you. Rebecca's here today to share a really awesome character playlist, but before you check it out, read more about her book here.

Summary from Goodreads: Growing up in privileged, Manhattan social circles, Caggie’s life should be perfect, and it almost was until the day that her younger sister drowned when Caggie was supposed to be watching her. Stricken by grief, Caggie pulls away from her friends and family, only to have everyone misinterpret a crucial moment when she supposedly saves a fellow classmate from suicide. Now she’s famous for something she didn’t do and everyone lauds her as a hero. But inside she still blames herself for the death of her sister and continues to pull away from everything in her life, best friend and perfect boyfriend included. Then Caggie meets Astor, the new boy at school, about whom rumours are swirling and known facts are few. In Astor she finds someone who just might understand her pain, because he has an inner pain of his own. But the more Caggie pulls away from her former life to be with Astor, the more she realises that his pain might be darker, and deeper, than anything she’s ever felt. His pain might be enough to end his life…and Caggie’s as well.

Books event!
I’m so excited to finally share more about The Edge of Falling.
I’m so excited to finally share more about The Edge of Falling.
The Edge of Falling was inspired by my first few years of living in New York City. I remember watching Gossip Girl on TV and being so amazed that these glamorous people and places were right within my reach! After moving here, I drank in New York City like a large cappuccino, down to the last drop: the landmarks, the museums, restaurants and all-around-fabulousness weren’t just dreams on the television screen anymore. I could go out and explore, and the things I learned about New York taught me a lot about myself, and as a result, inspired this book.
The
protagonist of the novel, Caggie Caulfield, comes from the Upper East Side of
Manhattan, from an elite family. Her grandfather is the famous inspiration
behind JD Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye,
and she’s got everything a girl could want: rich friends with famous parents,
VIP access to exclusive parties and black-tie galas, and a pricey private
school education. But no amount of New York glitz and glamour can shield Caggie
from the grit and grief of real life:her family is splintering after the death
of her younger sister last January, her relationship with her boyfriend crumbled
under the pressure, and now everyone at school has branded her a hero after
saving their classmate from the brink of suicide.
The Edge of Falling is my love letter to New York, but not just the beautiful aspects of the city we see on television. It’s the story of redemption, of learning to love despite loss, and of seeking genuine connection in a world that too often values the material things. The music on Caggie’s playlist reflects that dynamic. It’s a combination of some older stuff with more modern tunes (I know I’m not the only one playing Beyonce’s new album on repeat) but they are all in conversation with each other: they represent Caggie’s privilege and her glamorous lifestyle, her love for New York City, and her inner pain at the death of her sister, disconnect from her family, and her hope for their future. I had so much fun picking out (and rocking out to) the music for this post, and I hope you enjoy it as well!

SO MUCH AWESOME MUSIC. ALSO, NEW YORK! :D
ReplyDeleteI REALLY want to read this book.
Wonderful music playlist. Some of those songs just happen to be one of my favorites to listen to as well. :D Yay for music inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI've visited NY once back when I was still in college, almost as a field trip sort of deal. I've enjoyed my time there, but as someone who's lived in small towns/ rural places for most of her life, it didn't really fit me, haha. But it was an excellent experience. I'd love to read the book for Rebecca's experience alone, but the synopsis pulled me in first. ;v;
Thanks for the playlist! I looked up a few songs that I wasn't familiar with and found some new loves! <3
ReplyDeleteI have been waiting for this one for forever! Cannot wait to have a copy in my hands!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to read this one! It was the very first review copy I got through Edelweiss (which was the first time a publisher approved any sort of request from me), and I'm hoping I like it! I love the playlist. :) There are some really good ones on there.
